About Dr. Melissa Groelz

"I was an overweight teen in the 90s. Comments were made about how other girls were slimmer, prettier, in better shape. At lunch I would quietly eat a small potato, trying desperately to lose weight, while my friends ate anything they wanted and never gained an ounce.
I joined gyms. I exercised daily. I tried every diet I could find. None of it moved the needle — until I learned what insulin and metabolism were actually doing to my body. Two and a half months later I had lost 40 pounds."
— Dr. Melissa Groelz
Since 2008, Dr. Groelz has specialized in helping people lose weight the same way she did: by correcting the systems that control fat storage — insulin, metabolism, hormones — instead of fighting them with willpower. Nearly two decades. Thousands of patients across the north Denver metro. Voted Best Weight Loss Clinic eight years running.
Background
A Colorado native, Dr. Groelz graduated valedictorian from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, then graduated valedictorian again at Life Chiropractic College West, earning her Doctorate in Chiropractic.
She also spent seven years working as a personal trainer, aerobics instructor, and Pilates instructor — which is part of why her own weight was so maddening. She wasn't uninformed or inactive. She was a fitness professional who understood exercise physiology inside and out, and she still couldn't change her body composition.
That contradiction became the thesis her entire practice runs on: exercise is essential for your health, but what you eat is what determines whether you lose fat. She still teaches Pilates Reformer.
Nothing Reaches a Patient Until It's Proven
Even at a healthy weight, Dr. Groelz had stubborn fat on her thighs that no amount of exercise would touch — the same complaint she heard constantly from patients who'd done the hard work and still couldn't wear what they wanted.
She spent months evaluating body sculpting technologies and rejected the ones that could only treat small areas or did nothing for loose skin. When she finally found red light body contouring, she bought a unit and refused to treat a single patient until she had completed a full course of treatment on herself.
Three and a half weeks later, the fat was gone. Only then did she offer it to anyone else. Ideal Weight Loss Colorado became the first clinic in Colorado to provide the treatment.
It's the same standard she holds for everything in the clinic.
